Andy, I lived in Detroit for 22 years and as a kid, used to read the "Vessel Passages" item in the local paper. Every winter, I'd see the Mackinaw listed frequently, going from lake to lake busting ice. (Used to see the tugs Bramble and Kaw in there all the time, too.) I hope the new Mac lives up to the old one's reputation.
(Another ship I miss seeing is the smoky ol' ferry Chief Wawatam up near the Straits of Mackinac. That was a relic!) |
