Yes Sarah, The SS United States was a wonderfull liner and Its a shame they quit running her so soon. I guess people got in a big hurry and had to travel by jet. She was very fast and and looked so nice. I believe in her sea trials they opened here engines up full bore once but I seem to remember it was to much stress but her regular crossing speeds were really unbeatable. Enjoy the Islands. Andy

A bit more trivia. The "Big U" (the SS Unites States) had the same angines as a Forrestal class aircraft carrier. She even did 20 kts in reverse during her sea trials. Both of her Blue Ribbon Atlantic Crossings (east and west) were done at 35kts and above. Sarah |
