That's a nice flash set up Dan. I've started to make one of my own to use the HUGE vivatar flash I used to use on my old Pentax K-1000. I'll post a photo when I get it done, but I can see already it won't look as good as your's. Ketcha later.

Thanks Dawg..I only played with it a short time to make sure it was working, but I was really amazed what a difference it makes. This pic is in a totally dark storage area I couldn't even see what I was shooting till the flash went off.LOL if I could'a seen I would have found a better subject hehe

Dan that looks a lot like my bedroom. Just kidden. I can't wait to get mine into operation. If I didn't already have a flash, the unit you have and Brian recomends would be the one I'd go with fer sure!!
Dawg PS I like the Avatar, but which one is you??? |
I.m the one with sunglasses
Dan |
After seeing the other post where you explained your avatar I fully understand. My avatar comes from the saying that "If you can't run with the big dogs, you need to stay on the porch." Well when I finally was able to aford a full size pickup, I decided to get the Cummins diesel and heavy duty chassis with the full tow package. That was when I figured it wasn't a porch sitter,it was a big doginstead. I had a tag made that said that with one word changed to fit the Alabama way of pronouncing dog. As soon as I took the pickup to work everyone confused the name for the truck with me and started calling me Big Dawg. Hence the avatar. FYI for everyone!!
BigDawg The original no sunglasses |
Where Can I get one of these flash units ?
|
You can try ebay fromtime to time, or a local camera store which may also sell used equip..Or if you want to buy online,www.bhphotovideo.com, sells both new+used (used items depends on whats on hand at the time)and is a good place to deal with.

What do I need to use one on this Kodak DX6490 ?

I cannot decide between SunPak or the Vivitar DF 200. I'd appreciate opinions from anyone with experience with either.
Terry |
TD, I have that same bracket for my sunpak. So far I'm happy with it.
Tsims, i've got the Sunpak 380 super and I'm real happy with it. it will light up to 60 feet. I haven't tried it that far yet. the head swivels 90 degrees up and down and turns almost a full 360 degrees, so you can bounce the flash right over your shoulder. Bob |
Tsims, I've got a little behind on my use of the new Vivitar DF200 flash. The times I've used it, it performed great. The beauty of it is that it doesn't require a sync cord to operate. When you shoot the flash that came with your camera it senses the flash and sets off its flash a micro second behind. It has 4 settings that will allow it to get all the way out to 102 feet or 31 meters. The bracket it came with is alright but I kinda like TD's bracket better as it would elevate it and even further reduce any chance for red eye. Also like the idea of folding it for storage. Great item TD!! But what is the brand and where can I get one. Terry if money is tight I'd get the sunpak, The DF200 costs around $62.00 from B&H. For some that is a little pricey for a flash. For my use I think I like the ability to set up the flash anywhere in the room and not be tied down to the sync cord. I've owned vivitar flashes before and have always gotten good service from them. I'll post some nighttime shots for everyone soon so they can judge for themselves if it works..
