Considering the DX4530 and DX6340 for a first Digital camera. I know they are apples and oranges but could you give some advise? Leaning toward the 6340 because of greater manual control. Basic family photos, indoor events (weddings, ect), some close up detail shots of cars. Not sure I "need" the 5MP but if it is a better camera I would buy it since the prices are so close.

Don't bother with the 5 meg. camera. With DX6340 you get much better lens, more zoom, more user options along with higher resolution lcd, low light auto focus, much better flash, all of which the 5 meg does not have. better yet spent the extra money if your worried about more pixels and go for the DX 6440, i know i am. NewEgg.com sells the Dx6440 for $359, free shipping and sells the DX6340 for $249 free shipping.
