I have been using a Kodak DX6490 for a few years now and recently have been triying to take pictures of my daughter's show choir in action. The lighting is auditorium dark with standard stage lighting. They are in action almost continuously. My problem is that I cannot use flash photography which probably suggests I use the PASM setting instead of AUTO. I have been shooting with an ISO of 400, but I still seem to be getting whited out faces. Is there any other setting I should be looking at when shooting manual to eliminate the whited out faces?

Jack-
Your strategy is right on target. To eliminate the white face effect, you need to use some minus Exposure compensation. Try EV-0.7 to begin, and then check your image. If you still have the white face effect, you will need additional - Exposure Compensation. Keep increasing the minus Exp Comp to you get the proper face color. Because you have action among the singers, also keep your shutter speed up as well. Sarah Joyce |
