I have heard that you can use a PL filter just as you would an ND filter, but I was wondering how many f/stops it would cut... Would it be more like an ND2 or ND4?

The polarizer will cut the flares and the ND will not...
I don't know for the F stops but I have a ND2X and a Circular polarizer and they do almost the same effect on the F stops !! |

Well... I was asking because I took a trip to a park nearby that happens to have a waterfall (manmade) in it. This is what I came up with...

I always figured the polorizer was about 1 stop and the ND filters were a stop per number! ND4 =4 stops! Probably wrong there but I try not to go that in depth with this stuff and just use it! I don't know how but it usually works for me!
Dawg without a clue! That would be clueless wouldn't it???? LOL |

Haha, Dawg, I think your ND4 = 4 stops is a bit off.
An ND 0.9 is what I'm getting, and thats 3 stops :blah: |

Here's the info from B+H
glass ND filter .3 = 1 stop .6= 2 stops and so on 3.0= 10 stops these are uncoated glass filters, if multicoated they will cut even more. For comparison, an uncoated glass CP filter= 1.3 stops Dan |

Hey there Dawg! Nothing wrong with info! Thats the first kind of thing I look for when I get into something, a week after getting my camera I was already studying Aperature, Shutter Speed, ISO and how to make them work together and such:blah:
