I got my new z981 last night and haven't played with it too much, I do have a question though, I was trying to take a 'moon shot' on the way home and it wouldn't focus? the best picture I got was when I was in my car, through the window, but the flash went off (I was trying different settings). The other shots I used the night scenery mode and all I got was a round white ball, no detail.

Yup, was just thinking that a longer exposure would capture more detail. Everything I tried above below 1/320 was a bit blurry or lacking the extra details.

edited to add: I will read the manual eventually, LOL. This is my first nice digital, I had a really good 35mm, but I haven't played with it in years. I am going to have so much fun playing with this camera! Last edited by Blueangele; Sep 26, 2010 at 5:37 PM. |

Well to change the settings you should really read the manual
![]() I use a cheap table tripod from e-bay, there are quite a few that do the job. This was taken just now with a faster shutter speed: ![]()

I have the manual downloaded, but I have a two year old so finding time to read is oh so fun. I did however figure out burst mode, way cool. I know, or think, that there is a way to manual focus right? I am assuming with moon shots you would almost need to do that, at least with what I was trying. However, I did not try a tripod and will as soon as I can, I have two, one came with my video camera and one is one of those bendy leg ones, but would work ok.
read most of it and now I have a good idea...what settings did you use for the above pictures? Last edited by Blueangele; Sep 27, 2010 at 12:02 PM. |

![]() ![]() I took this a couple nights ago with my z980 with the following settings: Go into manual mode, set your F-Stop to the max (8.0 on mine), zoom in, (use a tripod), can use either autofocus or manual focus (infinity will probably work and if not you can just adjust it), set your shutter speed to like 1/20-ish so it doesn't get blinded and then set your timer to go off a few seconds after you press the shutter so you don't get camera shake, and voila! =P |
