BigDwag-

That is a great explanation, complete with the necessary photos as well. I especially liked that handsome guy in the last photo.

wow, this was great! thank-you so much for taking the time to send the photos. it really did clear-up my confusion!

so, from whatthe pictures show, I believethe adapter actually covers the cylinder of the lens and the lens is able to extend and retract "inside" the adapter cylinder. have I got that right? do you attach the filter before turning the camera on? sorry to sound so dense...

so different from my old 35 mm pentax and nikon...

thanks again, appreciate allyour help.

I keep a Skylight 1-A filter on the tube all the time and unsrew the adapter tube and filter all at once when I'm not needing it! You can put the adapter on first and the filter or lens second or screw the filter or lens to the tube and then screw it on. And yes you are right...the adapter tube goes over the camera lens tube and screws into the camera body. You can do it with the lens extended or with the camera off and the lens retracted...makes no difference...Just remember these are made of aluminum and are fine threaded so you can ( if not careful ) cross thread the threads!

And a big thanks to Dan!

i have seen some filter with tube combos onan online sales site. do you know if these will fit the z710?

this is an interesting "attachment" method for kodak, does any other company use it?

anything else i need to know about the z710? so far i really like it. i've hadgreat long-distance telephoto results.

thanks...again

A lot of the filter and tube combos are junk...you pay for what you get in the photo world ... but coming from the 35mm film world you already know that. Stay with the Kodak adapter and get your filters from a reputable sales place like....http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...Q=RootPage.jsp

Here is another post I did on the other forum I use....

Here is a list of Camera and photo equipment sellers that I personally recommend to those wishing to buy equipment! These are all good dealers with good and proven track records. If there are any that you feel should go on this list please E-mail or PM me and we will see about adding them. No endorsements have been paid for and they are mine alone so far!

you have been so nice to collect all these dealers. when i did lots of 35mm photography i knew all the "right" places to shop (and which ones to avoid.) but that was years ago - and now i'm using digital and have to "relearn" the photw world.

i will check them out. appreciate all the time you have spent helping me with this issue.

You are more than welcome.

Could someone help me understand this? I didn't know about this site or much about digitals when I bought my Z740 1.5 years ago. I was upset to realize, after the fact, that I could not purchase other lens for this camera. I checked with a couple of camera shops and was told the same thing. Now I see there;s this lens adapter. If there is no threading on the Z740 lens, how does this work? THANKS!
