I am interested in this camera. I really, really, reallydon't want to start another type of battery collection. Will NiMHs work at all?

The Kodak Z-1012 can use three types of batteries: a rechargable CRV-3, the Klic-8000 battery (it was used on the Z-612 and Z-712), and Lithium AA sized batteries. Alkaline batteries and NImH batteriesare not recommended. I hope that helps.

I am shooting comparison photos of well almost the same scen with the Kodak Z-1012, the Sony H-50, and the Fuji S-8000 cameras.
Here is the Kodak Z-1012 photo sample of folks fishing in the surf in front of our back deck in the Pacific Ocean. Sarah Joyce |

Here is the same shot done with the Sony H-50 camera. The Sony H-50 cost a full $(US) 100.00 more than the Kodak Z-1012 camera.

By the time I got the Fuji S-800 out, put neww batteries in it, and set up the fisher folk had left the beach. But here is a Fuji S-8000 photo of that same log down there. I think the Kodak Z-1012 more than holds it own when you consider that it was at its max zoom.

Well, the Z1012 gets a good review from my pet local camera shop, http://www.wrexcam.com, soI'm very tempted. The two camera experts weren't there when I was today, but I'll phone them tomorrow.
I've been toying for some time with the idea of getting a Z812 as a backup for when my much-loved Z712 eventually fails, but maybe I'll go for the Z1012, currently at the same price (uk£219) as I paid for my Z712 in May07. Steve (another one), the boss there, says the noise is better on this model. Here's a late evening image of Schiehallion from our last night campsite by Loch Rannoch on my holiday in Scotland a few days ago . |

And here's my son, Will, skimming stones that evening, with a glorious backdrop.
Using 'burst mode', I have nice sequences of the stones skipping along, in several subsequent sequences. |

AlanT-
Thanks for posting. Thus far I have found the 10mp Kodak Z-1012 to be a very good camera. Here in the USA, the Z-1012 is price a full $(US) 100.00 less than either the Sony H-50 or the Nikon P-80. I am sorry to say that I cannot currently match the graphic/photo quality of your photos, AlanT. However, I did some flash testing over the weekend using my husband, Bradley as my model. So here is a photo sample from that session. Sarah Joyce |
