Price and size aside, which one of these is the better camera for image quality? I really love the pictures the Z712 takes, but I can't find one near my location and I'm wondering if the Z1275 is capable of giving me the same picture quality as two stores around here carry it.
Thanks ![]() |

I'd be inclined to suggest that the Z712 might provide better IQ. While the sensor on the 1275 is larger than the 712 12MP still seems like a stretch to far (although I'll leave it to the mathematicians to compute the pixel pitch/size.) 7MP on the 712 is reasonable even though the sensor is smaller. Other factors in the 712s favor include optical image stabilization and its EVF whichalso canreduce user induced shake.
At least one frequent contributor here had the very similar Z885 and rated it a major disappointment. The Z712 12x lens provides a versatility that can't be matched on the 1275. |

Thank you so much ac.smith for taking the time to reply. I found the Z712 at a near store so I will pick that one instead. It is 35$CAN more however, but it should be worth it.

point and shoot verses a lens exchange

If you will take a lot of videos, and like more compact size, maybe z1275 is better.

Should I wait for the Z812? The Z712 is 299$CAN here, will the Z812 be 299$ too or 349$? Also, is the update a big step up?
Thanks to all who posted. |

Kaos-
In as much as you desire is for an all around camera, rather than a video clip intensive camera, I would say that the Kodak Z-712 is the better choice. With the Z-812 having more mp some of the low light capabilities of the Z-812 will be marred from noise. Here are two photos that really demonstrate the capabilities of the Z-712. The first shows the Captain of the Crown Princess addressing a gathering. It was taken using just the Z-712's own built in flash and the Captain was 35 feet way from where we were sitting. I increased the ISO setting to 800 and used the telephoto capability of the Z-712 camera. Yes, there is some noise. However, it is still a pleasing photo. Thesecond photois from the dining room of the Crown Princess. It was taken completely without flash, simply by increasing the ISO setting once agin to 800 and turning the camera's flash to the off position. Sarah Joyce ![]() ![]() |
