Ok so i bought some close up lenses for my new Z812, 55mm. For some reason someone said it was the correct size!(which it isn't)
So i ordered a 49mm - 55mm converter (i think this is correct) Just wandering.. How would i put it on? On the lens there is no thread, but when turned off i can see a thread. the only problem is, it isn't attached to the moving lens. I fear if i put on a lens here, and turn on the camera the lens will whizz forwards, be stopped and burn the motor! How do i put it on? Have i done something wrong? - Sim |

You need an extension tube, as shown for the rather different Z710 in the thread at http://forums.steves-digicams.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=115459&forum_id=18. That goes round the extending barrel, and your bit of glass goes on the end of that.
I hadn't noticed you mention close-ups in your spec when you started looking a couple of weeks ago. You can't go very close with your Z812, but if you put it on a tripod, and use the long zoom when necessary, you can get surprisingly good close-ups. I've got quite a few myself sprinkled around in these forums. Some are at minimum zoom and as close as it'll go, and some zoomed right in from further away, e.g., my 'Bee at work' picture at http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...amp;forum_id=7. One of my very first shots with the Z712 was another bee close-up when I'd only just bought it, spotted as I drove out of the garden gate. I also explored different methods of showing close fine detail without a close-up lens when the Biweekly shootout' forum here did 'fabric' in December, e.g., http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...mp;forum_id=85 http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...mp;forum_id=85 You go further away until you can focus the rough framing you want, and then crop the image, effectively digitally zooming on the computer after the shot's in the can. Good luck! |

The outward end of the extension tube will be 55mm. The tube puts any add on lens just beyond the extended length of your camera lens and prevents the two from bumping into each other. Be sure to get the Kodak extension tube made for the Z812 as some after market brands put the camera lens and the add on lens too close together with some disastrous results! Also some third party tubes do not screw in enough for a safe mount! Another caution here....The threads for the tube and the threads on the camera are very fine threads and caution should be taken that you do not get them "cross threaded". Hope that helps!
Below are some photos showing how it is done. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dawg |

I wonder if Sim & I will be in the same gigantic crowd this afternoon at New Brighton at the mouth of the River Mersey, near his Wirral home, to see a large fleet of tall ships set off from Liverpool. |

B&H Photo Video should have one and they ship world wide. I don't know if there is a VAT to pay or the cost. Adorama is another place to try. If not there try Kodak .com as I believe they will ship overseas as well. Alan can probably answer these questions better than me. Heck everybody ships to Alabama, and I have to remember not everybody ships to other destinations! Post some photos of the tall ships if you can, Please?
