Nice shots metalfab,
Your focus obviously works better than mine. Which Tcon lens did you use? |

Concur, nice shots metalfab.
FF, I've gone through the P712 manual. There is a menu setting for Accessory lenses (pg 48 ). That shuts off the external auto-focus. Probably you should use it anytime your using the TCON. There are two icons to assist when using manual focus. One, and I think it's on the right side of the screen is supposed to tell you the degree to which the auto-focus agrees with your choice. I couldn't find a picture of it anywhere. The other, which is a sliding bar indicates where you are within the total focus range. If you can find the focusing graphic try using it. If you can't find/use that use the focus range icon to adjust thefocus to infinity. Failing that try setting the auto-focus to distant (landscape). Keep us posted. I'm interested in the results. |

ac,
Thanks for the info and going to the trouble to help me out. I have set the acces. lens to "on" and reset the camera for a daylight shot at a powerline pole some 300 yards distant. The focus feature worked fine, now that I understand how it works. This shot was not brilliant but it was acceptable and I learned something more about the camera. I will say this, The Sony A-100 is much easier to use for this type of shot. I will reset it for another go at the moon this evening. Thanks again. |

I didn't use a TCON or add-on lens, just the 12x optical for the 1st photo and then enabled the digital zoom for the 2nd photo. Both set to Manual shutter and aperture, also focus to infinity. For some reason if you go to the Max. 50x digital zoom the camera no longer uses the image size you want, it automatically drops to 1024x768. Otherwize that 50x digital zoom photo would be huge...and probably very pixellated. |

This evenings effort was a total mistake. I somehow moved the mode dial from M to A and did not realize it. The exif data is:
1/200 Aperture mode F3.7 ISO64 Flash fired 72mm w/beercan and Tcon1.7 On a tripod |

Well, not really a mistake, but a picture that I had no idea I was taking. I noticed in the exif data that I was in Aperture priority which I had not intentionally set.
Sometimes you can hit the ball with your eyes closed. LOL |
