Wow Bob this is a keeper !! There aren't many painted barns around any more and they do have an interesting history.I have one that was taken with a film camera, not nothing as good as this.I need to back and get another one with the digital

Thanks Sandy, and Dan
I don't think this is an original, although I could be wrong, as I didn't know it was there till a couple of months ago. I don't know if the silouette of the Cardinal perched on the letter P is indicative of originality or not. Perhaps somebody on the forum will know. All I know is this is another rapidly vanishing piece of Americana, and I grieve everyday for what is disappearing.:sad::sad: Bob |

At least, it's not disappearing altogether -- enter chew mail pouch in Google and you'll have a fine Internet ride for a long time. There are databases of barns and locations. There are stories about how they were done, including the last Mail Pouch Barn painter, an Ohio guy, who could do two a day. He died in 2000.
The barnslive on in images, paintings and photographs. Nice shot. Dave |

Thanks for the info DG. I had almost forgotten these old barns until I discovered this one.

Nice shot Bob. Around here it's always "See Rock City". There are always a lot of those on any highway that leads to Chattanooga. The free paint job got a lot of farmers to take them up on the signs! My grandfather used to run one of their salesmen off the place about once a year.
