Same lens as the z712, same sensor size at z712 but at 8mb like the new Fuji and Panasonic cams. Shoots 720p video with stereo mics at 30fps. You can also use the IS and zoom during video. You can download the user manual here: http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/..._UG_GLB_en.pdf It also has an orientation sensor. Very similar to the z712 except the z712 would have a slight edge in low light given the smaller pixel size of the new sensor. Supports SDHC which is good considering the video. The flash is also slightly weaker judging from the stats. |

After reading the manual more carefully you can not use the zoom during video. You can use continual autofocus (or not) and the optical stabilization. More similar to the Panasonic series than the Canon S5 which does allow for zooming during video. The z712 also doesn't allow for zooming during video according to it's manual. Of course the caonon only has 640x480 video. The z1275 is unclear if you can or not.

the z1275 can use zoom during video, the 612 as well, So I imagine the 712 should also be allowed zooming in video mode
A member posts in the hybrid of the video from the 1275 WOW! 12x optical zoom and instead of digital stabilization this has optical wonder if the price will be 249? LOL |

On page 14 of the manual of both the z812 and the z712 it states that both cameras can't zoom during video. I'm sure an owner of a z712 can answer if the camera can zoom during video. If so, they probably made the same mistake on both cameras.

the z712 can zoom when using video. You just lose focus and takes like half a second to regain it.
edit: and this is kinda dissapointing just bought the Z712 in like june and already outdated ![]() ![]() |

What we may have is an editing error in the Z712 manual. The Z612 manual says that digital zoom can't be used during video.

when you say zooming :
are you saying; the camera does not allow recording with the Optical zoom the camera does not allow recording with the Digital zoom? or are you saying the camera will record optical max'd but not digital? I tested out the 612, and recorded a clip at the max res in optical it records and blurrs till re-focuses if I need digital zooming it is best to use a program on your pc not the camera |

I'm inclined to agree that if digital zooming is required post processing would be the best option. |
