I don't know what you guys think about ebay, but I just bid on a brand new one at 300 bux, free shipping... so if that falls through, I think I'll stick to BeachCamera, because I'm not a huge fan of mail in rebates.

Like Inn said, you don't want to use a wcon or wide angle on the p880.
and although you can attach 52mm filters on the 880, you will need a lens adapter to attach a tcon. When comparing zoomin 35mm equivalent ( the std. comparison) P712=36 to 432 P880= 24 to 140, adding the tcon will give you 238mm And my opinion, which may not be worth much, is if you're thinking of turning pro or even semi-pro, go for a dslr Dan |

Neither my budget nor my wife-to-be support spending $800+ on a camera right now. The reason I am getting the 880 is because I have the 850 and my 30 day return period is almost up and I really need something with higher resolution and if I get a dslr, I want at least 8 mp and that will come in time, maybe after I prove to the wifethatthis isn't just ashort-lived hobby. So right now, it's basically the 880, 850 or 712 and I think I want to go with the 880.

Well then, given the situation, that would be my choice too. I think you'll be happy with it.

In your case, I'd buy the P880, but ONLY because you already have the P850 for zoom, the P850 has more than triple the P880's zoom length if I remember right.

Dan... thank you for stating the obvious regarding getting a dslr. This has been on my mind too, but for once I was trying to keep my opinion to myself.
Nick... If I was in your shoes, my plan B would be to return the P850 before it's too late, but search for a USED dslr. I bet there are a lot of people right now looking to trade up from their Rebel XTs and D70s to the just released 10mp models. I'm expecting a bonus from my job in January and I'll certainly be searching for one of these cameras. Keep announcing what you're searching for in Craig's List and you'll find a sweet deal within your budget. Otherwise, mazeltov with the P880. |

Okay, here's the question... If I were to be hired to shoot a wedding... could I please my customers with a P880 or do I NEED a D-SLR? I plan on saving 50% of all the money I make on photography, seeing as how it's a second job, to invest back into my equipment. So, if I'm good, I'll have a DSLR in no time at all.

Just make sure you have a powerful flash and other lighting equipment.
