I have a DX 7590.
Would it be worth for me to upgrade to the Z612 for the Image Stabilization? I do use the zoom a lot. |

Well I will share with you that I found myself in that very same situation. And, after having used the Z-612 for a month, I can honestly share with you that IS, IMHO does make a HUGE difference, especially when using zoom. The day I took the attached photo it was overcast and windy. Even at ISO 200 my shutter spped was low, yet at near max 12X Optical Zoom even with low shutter speed and auuto ISO I was able to walk away with a well detailed photo, that just would not have been possible with my Z-7590 |

If you're going to be shooting mostly hand-held shots, then definitely YES. If you use your tripod for most shots, then it's a toss up. I turn the IS off when using a tripod.

If I was going to buy a new camera, IS would certainly be on my havetohave list, but I wouldn't replace my dx7590 just for that. Many of us use 6490/7590 at full zoom with a Tcon attached and pics are quite usable.

Thanks,
I may do that. I really like the camera. It does take great pics. But I do use the zoom a lot for outdoor pics & I dont want to carry a tripod around. I was even thinking about the new Nikon S10. It is a lot more compact but I dont know about the quality of the pics. Thanks again. |

My favorite answer to that question is DONATE it.... to your local high school, church, senior citizens center, whatever. I wouldn't put it on eBay as whatever I got for it wouldn't nearly compensate for my time wasted in fooling around with eBay, packing it, shipping it, etc. |

I bought the 612 yesterday.
So far I am really pleased. The IS really makes a noticeable difference. |
