Hi! I want to buy a digital camera and maybe the Kodak 6490 is right for me. I want to use the camera for the normal holiday pics, but because I'm also a racing-fan, I want to take pictures during car-races.
Has anyone experience using this camera for this kind of pictures? I'm a little afraid for the shutter-lag. If I'm correct it is possible to select shutter-time and (I think it's called) "apperture" manually with this camera, only you always have to use the auto-focus. Is the AF fast enough to take action-pictures? Thanks for your answer. Viktor |

Kodak have just announced the DX7590 which should be a bit faster taking actionshots.
But the DX6490 is a fine camera for motor racing as long as you understand the camera's limits. I've only managed to go racing once this year but here are a couple of examples taken with a 6490. ![]() And panning the shots are easy too. ![]() |

Cold Snail, these are great examples of what the 6490 can do. The 6490 has it limitations but with the correct settings you can still get professional results.

These are very nice pictures Cold Snail!! I like the 2nd picture(the yellow car), it givesa good impression of the speed of the car. Do you use manual settings taking this kind of pictures, or are you just using the auto-modus? I like the quality of these pictures very much!

Thank you for the kind replies.
To save my fingers from bleeding typing all this in again, just go to this message and read through it to see how it was done. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...essage=8657751 All the best. Paul. |

Paul, thanks for all your time and energy! I read the topic on the other forum, very interesting. I have one final question though, what is your experience using the display/EVF? Is it easy to aim the camera at the subject when it is moving fastly?
kind regards, Viktor |

I used the EVF but had both eyes open as the viewfinder goes black when the shot is taken, keeping both eyes open you can get a feel for what is going on around you and not only what you can see just using the viewfinder.
Hope this helps. |
