How does the tcon affect the aperture/shutterspeed of the camera?

My P850's maximum aperture at 12x zoom is f/3.7, if I add either the Kodak or Olympus tcon will it jump to f/4.5 at maximum zoom? Or will it slow down the shutter speed?

One respondent in this forum suggest that it does by approximately the magnification of the teleconverter however I don't think that's true.

It would be true in it was a reconvert of the type used in 35mm SLR photography (optically a barlow lens) that fit in between the lens and the camerawhich doesreduce the effective aperture - 2X=2 stops) but the Schneider & Olympus "TCONs" for the superzooms fit in front of the objective element. Similar auxiliary lenses were used with fixed lens 35mm rangefinders with non-TTL metering and no compensation was applied.

It will not affect the aperture at all. They do drain the exposure some but not significantly! As for the difference..The Oly lens is a 1.7 and the Kodak is a 1.4 but the difference in the final photo is not that noticable. I bought the Oly lens because there was no other lens at the time offered by Kodak! The quality and Chroma control is about equal. I've had folks ask me which I'd buy now if I didn't have one but knew how well each worked I'd tell them to get the one you want...but I'd get the cheapest one for the differences are so small as not to matter....Just one old Dawgs opine!

Oh yeah... my aperture setting at full zoom with and without the TCON-17 is 3.6.
