Meet the Bearded Robber Fly. They attack bees, wasps, and other flying insects. This one has caught a similar species to itself, the Hanging Thief. It too, preys on other winged insects! I found most of my info on a web page called What's that Bug.

After this guy finished his meal, he promptly cleaned his front legs, took flight with a loud buzz, and made me squeal and duck for cover. I can't put LOL, because I really did squeal and duck for cover !

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"These are some awsome pictures. Stunningly sharp and clear. Did you get that close are use some zoom? I have seen these flys around but did not know what they were are that they preyed on other insects. Thanks for the information. Thanks for shareing these.

Thanks Richard, I did not use zoom on these. It was very overcast and the camera seemed to be having trouble focusing further away while using zoom. So, I tried to be brave and got the camera as close as I could and used the LCD screen so I wouldn't have to get so close ! Glad you liked them !

Thanks Boily ! - I used the Kodak. I took some with the Nikon, but have not downloaded them yet. I was pleased with the ones that I got with the 7590, soanything better on the D50 will be a bonus.

Thanks Aytheon, inneyeseakay, indianguy, and Dawg for looking the commenting ! I was so pleased that the camera picked up his full beard !
