DX6340 getting good user reviews - no pro reviews yet
I am leaning towards the DX6340 at 260 euros from Dell. Good specs on paper - 4x optical zoom with the new "pro" German glass lens, 3.2MP, f2.2 aperture, improved flash and macro, etc. - and good user reviews are starting to appear on the web: do a Google search and lots will turn up.
Tends to get 4-5 stars, very positive from people who have used it for a few weeks.

Uses MMC or Secure Digital memory: anyone recommend one over the other? And anyone got a good (cheap) online store they can recommend (memory + reader + ships to Europe)?

Bear in mind the SD card will have the write-protect tab which MMC cards do not.
The camera will use either card the same way so the choice really is up to you.

RE: Kodak
My father has this camera and I think it is a great little camera. He wanted something simply to operate and easy to understand so we went shopping around and got this camera with the new printer port this is a nice litte combo for around $500 u.s. The prints are nice., and last night he had me come over to teach him how to email pictures. The Kodak easyshare software was very easy to understand. 2 minutes after installing the software. He was emailing away.

The build quality is garbage - very flimsy construction. The software is a conjob, rigged by Kodak and Apple Quick Time, they give you the basic software and then pressure you to upgrade to the premium software. This racket is supported by the firmware being set to only take movies in MOV format, and the files after full conversion in to AVI (RADTOOLS) and then WMV, with almost no discernable loss of video or sound quality, compress down to 1/7th their size.

Kodak and Apple do dirty deals for mutual kickbacks.

Online registration is a conjob, as "registering for warranty" also means that not only do you have to fill out a 72 question market reasearch survey where you have to answer ALL the questions; then your details DO get shared amongst all of the Kodak branches and their affiliates - so Kodak and their affiliates then start spamming. The opt out is a JOKE, meaning that you have to then opt out of every seperate affiliate and department.

Kodak is the apitamy of dirty deals in the fine print.

The customer service under warranty is absolutely appalling.

In a technical sense, the camera is very good. The build quality is junk, the software is sleazy and inadequate, and Kodak are a pack of corporate scumbags.

I will never ever buy another kodak product as long as I live.

If Kodak want to buggerise customers around, and they do, and lock them into an idiot and incompatable movie format, with bloated file sizes, then they can stick their camera.

My recomendation - if the camera doesn't run "universal and freindly" film making software, that is easially edited or converted by everybody free ware, then don;t buy it.

Hi 2shane, welcome to the forum. I'm not sure why your very first post is in response to a three year old question about which memory card to recommend. But I hope you feel better getting that off your chest.

Gosh makes me not want to buy a camera that is out of date and no longer sold by anyone I know! Also didn't buy my Digi-Cam just for Video. Kinda stupid to buy a mostly Still camera and expect it to shoot professional Video! I think he needs to get a Video camera and shoot better video! Oh yeah welcome to the Friendliest forum on the net! I'm sure sometime in the future you'll get into the swing of it!! Till then may your tomorrow be better than today seems to be!!
