Get a cheap bird feeder and some Black oil sunflower seeds. Fill the feeder and wait a day or so. The cardinals and other colorful birds will flock to it. After some time you'll get downy woodpeckers, goldfinches, and maybe even some red bellied woodpeckers. Not to mention house finches. Works everytime!

Feeders I've got......apparently it's ability that's in short supply :-)

Actually it seems to me that the Z612 seems to struggle a bit with AF in the long end of zoom......but don't they all.

AF meets it's match when shooting wildlife sometimes. The branches and leaves get the focus and the wildlife are out of focus quite often. I never had that problem with my old K1000 all manual film camera. This is one reason I'm going DSLR in a month or so. I like to manually focus on these subjects so I can put the focus where I want. The P880 and the P 712 and 850 do this to a certain extent but not as well as I would like! Thus The K10D DSLR. with it I can choose full auto or full manual. May get those shots I've been missing that way! LOL

Lol - same here, got spoiled with the AE1-P.....have never really adapted to power zoom & AF. If it weren't for the cost of film I'd still be using it.

K10D - don't think that can be beat. You can use all the old lenses AND get IS - IMHO Pentax has (another) winning combo in the 100/10D.

If I stay back in this hobby likely won't be staying with P&S for long.
