If that hawk was chasing small birds then it is likely a merlin (small falcon). Eating little birdies is what merlins do. Getting more pics of a merlin would be something special.

Merlins are migratory, and I have bird feeders, so I get them in the warm weather (New York). About a week ago one nearly flew in to me after missing some birds. It made an amazing maneuver away from me at high speed. I've been seeing them for years but never when I have a camera with me.

If it is a merlin then you probably won't see many hawks because the merlins attack them.

Thanks domang! I was driving to someones house and while at a stop sign just before thier street, I spotted it, pulled over and grabbed my camera (good thing I brought it along! lol) Everytime I head over there, I keep my eyes peeled.
