For what it is worth-

In my experience with my Z-712, using the KLIC 8000 works the very best with the Z-712 camera. NimH AA batteries are only a stop gap solution. CRV-3's will work, but like the NimH batteries, theyhave a very shortened life.

The Z-712 beats the Z-612 by a wide margin, especailly on price and partcularly in the low light level/high ISO range. With the price reduction on the Z-712, that is the camera to home in on right now.
