Any word on why the "P" series went away.

My P712 is a fine little camera. It has some limitations as any camera does and I was surprised to not see anything on the Kodak website.

Kodak tried to go cheaper thus the dumping of the P series and the DX series. They wanted to produce cameras in a cheaper mode in hopes the sales would pick up...Backfired as a lot of Kodak users have moved on to better build quality. Seems that HP is in a Buy Out mood and is trying to buy out Kodak. If they do then they will probably do away with most all the Kodak camera's now being made and replace them with something between a HP and a Kodak.
