Hi, I saw this camera yesterday at a store. I tried to check this model on the net for more infos and reviews but couldn't find any. Not even on kodak's website.
The only specs I got from the store are: 6.2 MP, digital zoom only, uses 2 pcs. tripple a batteries. very small size, comes with 1gb sd card free. Selling here in Manila for about US$ 100. Anyone got any info on this? I'm planning to buy one for my 10 yr. old daughter as a birthday gift. Thanks.

I didn't buy it yet, need to get more info and some comments from users before I decide. Unfortunately, I still can't find any, especially on the net.
I find it pretty odd coz they (kodak and other brands) usually announce a new product and have press releases before launching date. But for this particular model, there's not a word about it.

Nope, not those two, not even close. Looks more like the new Kodak M1093 IS but smaller in size. The one I saw has a silver gray finish on the front and black at the back. I'll try taking a pic with my phone cam when I have the chance and I'll try to post it here.

The specification of the C610 is there if you follow your link to the Kodak pages on the C610. It's buried in the appendix to the 'extended user guide'....

This appears to be an extremely basic point & shoot with digital zoom only (i.e., a zoom not worth using if you own a computer) and a fixed focus lens with only two apertures. I would expect it to be very, very, cheap.

My local camera shop doesn't recommend any cameras without an optical zoom, but they do sell cameras with optical zoom starting at 39 ukpounds (US$78 about a year ago, about $60 today!), and several quite good ones at under 100 ukpounds. They currently recommend an 'Odys Slim Z-8' , two Hyundai models (A9325 and L-8325) and the 'Rollei X-8' in this price range, all with a 3x optical zoom, and they all take good pictures (displayed in a book on the counter!). Remarkably, the last two have some kind of image stabilisation ('anti-shake').

So,before getting your daughter's presentperhaps you shouldlook hard around the market first, unless you're a specially loyal Kodak fan. (I'm one of them myself, but I'm not that loyal!)

Lack of optical zoom is a really big drawback. Having one might get her hooked on photography, and a proper zoom could delay the inevitable request for an upgrade!

Good luck!
