Default rechargeable NiMH or rechargeable Lithium Ion?

Im really confused as to which is better? Im going to travel and would be needing a digicam. which among the two is better: rechargeable NiMH or rechargeable Lithium Ion? Do you think when travelling, a camera which uses rechargeable AA is better so that if I ran out of charge, I can just buy them easily.

The nickel-metal hydride batteries are a lot easier to find, and cost a lot less than the lithium type not to mention the fact that if you have the lithium type you need a special charger for it while the
nickel-metal hydride batteries use the normal battery chargers which you can pick up at any drug store or even super markets.

The Lithiium batteries may last longer on a charge but it's not enough of a difference to warrant the higher price and less compatiblity and availability.
