Z1012 makes 'photo of the day'
In case Kodak superzoom enthusiasts (both of us) haven't noticed, Steve's 'picture of the day' on 4May was a Z1012 shot...

It is one of the most under praised cameras made. I still have two of them.

Gosh, Sarah Joyce, that makes (as I expected) three of us!

Actually I'm using the Z712 mostly, but the 1012 gets an occasional outing.

Old age
My trusty Z712 has begun to show its first sign of old age. It's forgetting its date & time every time I change the battery, however quickly I do it. I expect its capacitor has failed. Curiously, all other settings are retained, so they must be separately powered, or in some non-volatile sort of memory.

It's not a problem, as it takes me about 10 seconds to reset the clock, and the battery doesn't need changing very often. I always have two fully charged spares to hand.

But I expect I'll graduate permanently to the Z1012 in due course, and put up with its few extra millimetres and grams. It fits in the same little bag.

Hi Alan-

I also had to retire my Z-712 due to mechanical failure. But I have no hard feelings. It served me very well indeed. The Z1012 is an excellent camera and it still continues to do yeoman duty.

I usually go with Easy Share, I am going to check this one out, it seems to have lots of potential.

My Z612 started forgetting the date on battery change about two years ago and the mode switch in the Auto position is a little shaky. Otherwise still delivers excellent photos. It's usage will decline however as I am now a new owner of an E620, four lenses and an external flash. It really took that much gear to be sure I could exceed the Z but that is surprisingly light. I emptied one of my old film SLR bag and reloaded it with the E620 gear and it weighed a lot less after I was done.
