I was wondering what cause the "colored sun rays" in this picture. It was taken in Auto mode.
Is this the reason people use polorizer lenses?

GDay Fred,

Your picture is suffering from a nasty case of Flare, caused by the sun reflecting off you front lens element, best way round this is to fit a lens hood of otherwise shade the camera from the sun.

Regards

Thanks Brian and Dave. I bet if one could control the flare it would make some interesting photos.

I used to have a filter for my film SLR to create that effect! I forget what it was called.
