I'm sure quite of few of us herewould be interested in the cable release design!

As for as where to buy the TCON, lots of people recommend B&H (Olympus TCON-17), although I've never ordered from them myself.

Thanks to all!! I promise to do my very best to build that shutter release just as soon as I get the camera in my hand. In fact I've already have thought of several things to put in the design. Such as a light to show when the shutter is depressed half way and an attachment to the tripod mount that will still allow mounting to the tripod and mounting a flash braket. Also a way to give a soft push to prevent damage to the shutter button and shake to the camera. The old pot is boiling over with ideas. That said, any and all input is more than welcome.

Not sure if you've already checked this, but there is a remote control forum here on this site...

http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_forum.php?id=44

It's been quite a while since I've looked there, but I seem to recall that there were a few posts from people who have made their own remote releases - mostly for Nikon coolpix series. Might be worth a look.

Thanks I'll look . Yuh never know when someone else is gonna come up with the right answer for any problem. Just too bad aftermarket man. haven't considered this an issue worth dealing with. I sometimes think they don't think that digital is here to stay.

Can someone tell me the thread size on the tripod mount for the 6490, also the depth. I'll take metric or sae dimensions.

The tripod mount is a 1/4" diameter....the depth is about 3/8" .

Got the base piece made Friday night on my lunch break. Can hardly wait to get the camera to refine my dimensions. I copied a photo off the Net and used Photo Shop to expand to close to correct dimensions. Then went to Wally World to compare . CLOSE, Real Close. I'll do some more later if I can steal more time for Govt. Work.

Dawg says bye now

Thanks again MarkFaulkner and everyone that has responded!!
Is this a GREAT FORUM or what!!!!!

Through the magic of scanners and photo shop elements I can
post the Idea I have for the mount for my cable release. So here it is. Any and all comments or questions are and will be appreciated.
