Hi all, nothing special about the pic, just felt the need to shoot something. But i thought i'd let you all know that right after i shot this pic i uploaded it to the computer, i then shut the6490 off but it froze up instead and went completely dead. the only thing on was the light on the scene dial. I fiddled with it for several minutes and couldn't get it to do anything. (was nearly frantic of course) finally for want of anything else i popped the memory card out and the camera immediately reset itself and was back to normal. just thought i'd let you all know in case it happens to you.

yippeee, my cams okay again

Hmmm.. Bob, perhaps reformatting the card would help. Is the card very old and what brand? I use a card reader and don't hook the cma directly to the computer so I've never experienced anything that strange.

Hi Bob;

I hope this doesn't sound glib, but it's good to be reminded that a digital camera with a memory card is simply another form of I/O device. I'm fairly sure there are few of us who have not had a floppy disk or a CD or a hard drive fail on us. We can take some comfort from the fact that usually it is the medium which fails and not the system hard-or soft-ware. (I take that back... We've all had software go south on us.) Unless this glitch repeats itself, for now you can probably assume that this is an anomaly of sorts. Test it out. Let us know.

Best regards,

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

tsims, the card is about a year old and it is a lexar brand. I sometimes use a card reader too, i had intended to recharge the battery tonight though.

Tom, i just kinda panicked for a few minutes, LOL. I was afraid my precious camera was toast. It's true about the hardware and software thing, once i gave it some thought was when i pulled the card. just thought i'd give everybody a heads up in case it happened to them.

Regards

I used to have a problem like that with my old DC4800.. The first time it really upset me. I found that by taking thebattery out and just putting it back in, everything returned to normal. lol Magic I guess.

Dave, yes, i was a little upset, LOL. I reformatted my card, if it happens again i'll probably replace the card, after all it doesn't owe me anything. it's time to get a spare anyway.

If that happens to me I'll now know what to do!! If you hadn't informed me of the solution, and it had happened to me I belive the neighbors and half the county would be aware of the total storehouse of cuss words that are in my possesion.
Jeez that would be scary Bob!! I can hear my wife saying I told you so. and me in tears. Glad to hear of the good results Bob. Jeez that would be scary!!!
