My daily visitors arrived and promptly started the demolishing of my porch rails. $#@#$%#@ critters.

Even though they are about the same size it appears to be a mother and youngun, as one will peck until she get something and then feeds the other. They are so skittish I was only able to shoot them through the storm door.

First, did you get both of them? They'll turn on you if you only wound them...

And second, don't you have to replace the storm door as well as the wood on the porch, once you shoot these critters through the door?

(Seriously, condolences. My brother-in-law's house, sheathed in flawless, real woodclapboard siding, held something of interest to dozens of woodpeckers in his neighborhood. They'll have to replace many a board this year. Priced clear clapboard siding lately? Ouch!).

That sucks about the wood on your porch, Dawg. Short of eliminating them, I don't know how you would get rid of them.

DG clear cedar 4x4's aren't cheap either!! Dave the bee's are what they are after, and if you don't take care of them the woodpeckers will find them. I really don't plan to do anything about them this year but next year I'll have steel there instead!! Or beak benders if you will!!!

Sorry about your porch Dawg. Nice pics though. I heard that wood is way more expensive than any other material now a days. Well except for gas. Good luck rebuilding your porch I think theres a hammer and nail sale atthe hardware store.LOL.
