Hi Im new in this world of digital cameras, i`ve been reading everything i could in the last 4 days. :O

A parent that lives at Washington DC, Washington DC. it`s gonna buy a camera for me, causei live in South America (Uruguay) and here the cameras are much expensive.

I Want a camera Like this : ------------->

- At least 3x Optical zoom

- SD memory (cause is the cheaper, but i don`t know if it worksquick and fine)

- That could Record Video with sound in a good quality. Andplayback them on the camera with sound.

-A New camera,NOT a Refurbished one.

- I can pay Max. U$S 200 for the camera, cause i want to buy also a 512 mb SD card that cost`s around U$S 50, totally i gotfor spend justU$S250

The camera that i found that fits better with my requierments is the Kodak EASYSHARE CX7430 (specially because of the low price), the only thing i`m not shure about if this is the indicated camera, isbecause ofthe video quality, at the Kodak home page specifications ( http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=9/19/32/1833/1834&pq-locale=en_US ) it say this :VGA (640x480 pixels) at 13 fps ; QVGA (320x240 pixels) at 20 fps, i`ve watch the sample video from the steves review for this camera, but it`s very short and i can`t determinate if the video quality is enought good.

Then i red the notice that Kodak have just release new camera models, here is the notice ....---> http://www.steves-digicams.com/pr/kodak_05042005_c310-330-360_pr.html

I look at the specifications of this model at particular "Kodak EASYSHARE C330" ( http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=9/19/32/7085/7087&pq-locale=en_US )and its very similar to the CX7430, What are the diferences between them ? some one can tell me ?, the price is the same, the only thing diferent that i note is that one of them have 4x digital zoom and the other 5x. but nothing more.

So what camera woulkd you recomend me ? , I accept suggestions of cameras of other brands too .

Also if you can recomend me a place to buy the camera at Washington dc it would be nice!

Thanx a lot from now!

best wishes..

Andres.. :-)

p.d. Sorry about my very poor and forgotten english

I personally can't answer your question, not having any experience with either camera but we'll keep you bumped to the top until someone else can help you.

A DX7440 is your best bet. (but maybe out of budget, B&H price $219)
If you need zoom, forget digital zoom as the quality of the picture drops like a lead ballon.

I used to own a DX6490 and got one or two nice pictures from it, nowadays they are cheap compared to a 7590, if you can save a little more, go for this.
I'm sure Dawg will howl all day saying how good it is now.

Edit: Added some more details.

thank you for your recomendation, i`ve look that camera, and in the kodak home page it says the price is 249.95, now i`m gonna wath for the price in stores of USA to see if i can found a better price.

I see that it has a little more zoom (4x optical) and lens from other brand (Professional-quality SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON 4X Optical Zoom Lens ) And a bigger LCD display.

the video it`s the same than the CX7430

VGA (640x480 pixels) at 13 fps
QVGA (320x240 pixels) at 24 fps

What other differences have this camera with the CX7430 ¿?

I want to add something that i forget saying, I don`t Care about the MP, I need that the camera have at least 3 MP.

Thanx from now!

Some good shots? One or two good shots? How about nearly every one a good shot? Well that might be too much, But you can't go wrong with the DX6490 in my opinion. My daughter has the DX7440 and swears by it. At least that is what her husband says. She never swears in my presence. Either one would be a good choice and a lot of bang for the money. The 7440 is a little cheaper right now, but the 6490 has the schnieder 10X zoom lens. I don't know how folks can get along without the LARGE zoom lens!

Howlin' Dawg

Paul would probably say skill over size!!!!!

I didn't say they were good, just nice.

Nope, I say "Zoom with your feet"

Anyway, back on topic.
B&H Photo is the ONLY seller in New York I would trust, there are a lot of con-artists listing cheap cameras which don't come with the usual items (battery, charger, software and so on......) Don't get suckered into one of those sellers.

If you look Here on Amazon near the bottom there are some factory refurbished 7440's for under $200 which come with the same guarantee as a new one.
I would use the seller with the highest transaction/rating.

I'll say that I bought a DX7440 AFTER a Nikon D70, that's how happy I am with mine.

Batteries, AA in the CX, Kodak's own in the DX.

Shutter speed, CX 1/1400- 16 seconds, DX 1/2000 to 64 seconds.

The DX has a bigger screen that can review at x8 magnifcation (I wish my D70 had that)
The main plus is the speed of the DX7440, it's much faster (less lag) than a lot of other camera.

Read Steve's reviews on both and look at the full sized images.

CX7430 Here

DX7440 Here

And a sample from me with the 7440.

the last question, i want to buy also a SD 512 mb card, wich one do you recomend me, cause i see that the are a lot of brands ands card speed`s.

best wishes!
