I tried it with my old camera a while back (for the focusing), but couldn't hack into it.

Anyway, what's the matter with the compression? It is more to do with the smaller sensor than the way it's compressed.

Hi

There were a few discussions about this when the firmware upgrade first came out.

One thing that I see preventing this is the lack of a source 6490 firmware file - my own has 1.0300 and when a poll was taken on another forum this seems to be the only version out there (I assume 1.00, 1.01 & 1.02 may have been "pre-release").

There don't seem to be any versions available for download on the Kodak site, and without some sort of source code you've nothing to hack ! [unless someone has a version from Kodak or elsewhere ?]

I suspect it's no good looking at the 7590 firmware file, since that'll probably have a number of hardware-specific parts that will mean its no good for the 6490 - heck, it might even be too big to fit in the available memory - it certainly has a lot of 7590-specific menu code in it [I looked...]

So unless someone has some source, I think it's probably a dead-end.
