Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your fall, I hope you are on the mend. Most people recommend a plastic bag to protect the camera from light rain and incidental spray (ocean surf?). Nothing short of a waterproof housing will protect it from dunking or heavy rain, water is going to get in. I'd recommend a water tight travel bag for transport and then take the camera out when you're ready to use it, with a plastic bag handy if conditions aren't great.

Hope you have a great trip. We expect lots of pictures when you're back.

regards: Jon

Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your "incident", glad to hear you are feeling better.

I have (I think, not at home now) this bag http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_9148.htmthe dx6490 fits nice and snug, but not much else and it's weather proof.

Have fun, looking forward to the pictures - I went on a whale watch years ago and never saw any, so I am jealous, but willing to look at the pictures when you upload them.

Lisa, I can't take credit for this, read it somewhere and made a note of it... "For light rain, bring along an umbrella or pull your rain jacket over your camera to keep it dry. For more monsoon-like conditions, your camera may need a rain jacket. You can fashion one out of a resealable bag by cutting a hole for the lens, fastening it to the lens with a rubber band and putting a skylight filter over the lens for protection"...

Have a great time and take lots of pics

Dan
