Hi all.......I have 1 year old Dx 6490 that briefly powers up then turns off. I put a fresh battery in, with the same results. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks for any advice

The DX6490 has a power saving feature,it goes into standby mode after around 30 seconds or so see this thread.

Leave the battery and memory card out overnight and test it without the memory card in the morning, if it works, then add the card.

Nope, but I've heard of it before. Sometimes memory cards go bad (I've had two compact flash cards die on me), but I have heard of a couple of week old DX7590 locking up due to a duff SD card.

Thanks for the suggestions...but still no working. Even without the sd card and battery, just using the power from the docking station, the camera turns on says its reading the card, them immediately powers off. Guess I'll have to send it to Kodak for repair. Thanks again.

Just thought I would let everyone know that I resoved the power problem with my DX 6490 (I hope!). I noticed (as I was preparing to send the unit to Kodak for repair), that the lens adapter I put on the camera was threaded on the body wrong. (appeared cross-threaded). I removed it and screwed it back on properly. Turned the camera on....everythingstarting working normally. As a test, I've been using the camera everyday, and it has performed without fault! Is it possible that the mis-threaded adapter was keeping the lens from moving freely? Anyway...all appears normal. Hope thiswasn't just mere coincidence.

I was just going to suggest that to you. My daughter recently took some shot with my 6490 and mis-threaded the adaptor. I thought my camera was shot. I guess the Kodak has a built-in safety procedure that shuts the camera down if there is an obstruction. I'm sure you are as relieved as I was.

Cheers,

Glad you got it fixed, rj. Last night I was out for a bicycle ride and I banged my 6490 against the bike frame and the lens adapter fell off. I got lucky and it didn't seem to hurt it, it screwed right back on.
