"Save as" and rename the extension to ".avi" would hang EasyShare. And then the .AVI output file will appear to have the same size as the .MOV file, but MediaPlayer 9.0 will complain the file is corrupt. Moreover ES 5.0 cannot be quited at this stage. You have to TaskMgr kill it.

(ES 5.0 is newly downloaded, upon product registration. That bundled on the CD was ES 4.0 only)

Cause of the problem found:
It cannot handle any QT file larger than about 10MB. I tried to convert a 2MB file and the output file came out in about 10 sec. But a 15MB file was hung again

But the resulting quality of the .AVI file is much worse than the original .MOV file.

Anyway the reason to convert to AVI in the first place, is for easy-sharing with friends using the more popular Windows/AVI platform. What a joke on its own name "EasyShare"?

I've been cursing that (not-so)Quicktime program on another forum, it seems fine if you use a Mac, but for the other 99% of us, it's far from perfect.

The ES 5.0 I downloaded is somewhat an "alpha" version (you have to register your Kodak product in order to access the download site).

Maybe we could let Kodak fix it in the final release.

The best way they could fix it would be to let us shoot MPEG instead of sl----I mean quicktime.

The compression is MPEG-4 already, but the output files are packaged as QT.

To change the output format to .mpg, I think at least requires a firmware rewrite, if the cpu inside the V550 is not hardwired to output .mov format.
