http://www.kodak.com/global/en/servi...l?pq-path=7175

Much sooner than I expected.

I just downloaded and flashed. No diff noticed yet.

Seems ES 5.0.3 no longer need to be reg'd Kodak users.

I wonder if anyone knows what kind of "general performance improvements" are they talking about.

The statement "general performance improvements" for releasing a new version of firmware, is as trivial as we Chinese saying:
. "Mothers are usually women"

But to be fair, all DC vendors make the same sort of statements in releasing new versions of firmware (not to acknow any bugs fixed).

I think the performance diff may be so minor that we would need a 1/100 second resolution stopwatch to find out.

But anyway, I am happy to be their guinea pig.

Here's reply from Mike from Kodak on dpreview.com about "general performance improvements"

Hey, I'm sorry I missed your other post. The V550 firmware update is mostly to make it work properly when used with an adapter plate on a Kodak EasyShare printer dock plus. The original firmware did not allow pictures to be printed directly from the camera docked onto the printer dock plus due to differences in the adapter plate interface.

Kodak's sublimation type 4R printers?

I once thought about buying it (initial cost only US$100 quite acceptable)

But then the consumables (toner & paper) is US$0.5 each, rather too high for me.

BTW any comment on the Kodak 4R printers?

1. Quite good quality prints
2. Direct plug-n-play for v550, w/o need to be thru computers.
3. Acceptable initial cost US$100
4. But deterringly high consumables cost (toner/paper):
US$0.5 per print

(I haven't used 4R printers before and no ideas about the printing cost. I am comparing to inkjet A4 printers)

5. Are the prints water resistant? I suppose yes, because 'sublimation' print tech.

My optimistic guess:

We should be expecting 2.0 with lots lots of "improvements" including manual controls which the V550 heavily lacking ))

But I am wondering what fw version for those recently bought from the shops?

BTW, ES is also now 5.10

But similar to the firmware version change, I still cannot notice any diff with ES 5.0.3.
