IN SPANISH

I've just written in the spanish forum about the lack of sharpening. I only see some sharpness on the nose of the girl, the upper of the light in the telephoto, and (strangely) the ISO 400 image (upper right border, in the bottle). Perhaps they used manual focus, or perhaps it's the preproduction model. But I would say that the camera is going to provide good enough sharpness (or, at least, not that one!!).
About the noise, the ISO 400 image doesn't look too bad to me, though is taken at daylight. The skies are quite clean, and I notice some noise (but normal, I'd say) at the shadow shirt of the photograph. We'll see.

Un saludo.

Yes, I was triying to do that, but had to go to dinner...

I've posted the translation of the main points at http://perso.wanadoo.es/kodakpseries/horev.htm

His general line about the cam is some kind of "the cam looks good and well specified, with some minor complaints as viewfinder and speed, BUT isn't the final firmware".

I'm not too worried about the fuzzy appearance. I'd say that the guy was focusing manually, or something like that. Because, surprisingly, the most sharpened image is that taken at ISO 400, and sincerely I think it's too bad to be true.

Or, as Gammu said at the dpreview forum: "Because they were taken standing on a boat drinking Heineken" :-)
Un saludo.

Highlight the whole paragraph with your mouse and you can find the followings:

I'm afraid that's not the reason. I found one picture that being taken at 24mm focal length and 1/809s shutter speed, these are already enough for one to take sharp images even during earthquakes.

I'm paying my attention on this model for quite a period of time, but if that is the performance of the release model, I don't think I will buy.

I think its too early to rule out that cam. It was preproduction model and a Kodak personal already wrote on dprev. that they are working on firmware (final) for shipping. So when camera will be released we'll know the image quality.

I agree with Atindra.

From those images I would only take in consideration noise, color, vignetting... but no sharpness, for the simply reason that IT'S SO BAD IT CAN BE TRUE!! And because the ISO 400 image shows the better sharpness. At such shutter speeds in all photos (quite fast) it's clear that isn't a problem of camera shake, but perhaps a wrong manual focusing or something like that.

Also, the P850 is showing good sharpness in its images, and being developed at the same time ("same generation") I don't think the P880 being worst that the P850. For example, look at the noise: it's almost the same type in both (very fine grained and (I'd say) quite low without loosing too much detail), so I think we can expect same performance in sharpness too.

In a few words: I wouldn't care about that fuzzy appearance at this point. Sure more samples will come.

Un saludo.

Lets hold off our opinions untill we get more reviews. And as for standing on a boat and drinking beer --- somtimes that's when my hand steadies up a little. Don't know about Hieneken as that ain't my brand but I know what an Icehouse or two can do for me! Anyway we are all a little premature for making damning or just condeming remarks about this camera. We need to be patient and wait a while!! I prefer to hear from owners as well as the professional reviewers!
