I was wondering if anyone ever heard of the Opteka 3.2x HD2 Telephoto Lens (for Kodak Z7590 DX7590 DX6490).

http://www.opteka.com
http://www.47stphoto.com

I want to know how it compares to the TCON-17 and if anyone has experience with this.

It's a new one on me Bedde. I did notice they also have a 650-1300 for several brands of cameras but not Kodak as yet. Hope that comes to be soon. Come to think of it maybethe 650-1300are just for SLR's.

I'm not sure I like the clues being dropped by Opteka

-- no physical address, phone or other actual contact information on its site

-- "news releases" consist only of one line product intro blurb (actual news releases have contact information and details on the company and product)

-- no reviews of Opteka lenses that I can find anywhere

-- no sample photos taken with lens

-- "enlarged image" of product is the same size as the original page, too small to see manufacturer or other data on the box

-- no information on elements & grouping of glass within the lens

-- glittering generalities about performance and "high definition" but no resolution figures, data on light transmission, or compatibility charts

To me,$130 for a pig in a poke is about $125 too much...

Tcon (with roughly half the tele power at 1.7x) has tons of reviews and lot of commentary by individual photographers, almost all of which say the lens is good.

Of course, the irony is that the Tcon could well be manufactured by the same Japanese OEM that makes the Opteka...

The Opteka 650-1300 super telephoto zoom lens is advertised on the same page http://www.opteka.com you referenced to look at the 3.2X. - Pablo

Get either the TCON or the Kodak 1.4. Either one is going to give good quality for the money. I know the TCON-17 is a good one and would think Kodak has tested their lens to exaustion. Be safe not sorry unless you just have money to burn. But in the end it's your deciscion. Good luck and have a good weekend.
