My first attempt to capture a sunrise. Played with different settings (ISO and aperture) in manual mode. Focus set to manual, at infinity. Auto WB, with the flash turned off. Used an UV filter. The circular polarizer is at the top of my "to buy" list.

Thank you Atindra and Dan. I bought a Cokin Circular Polarizer from Best Buy this evening - hope to put it to good use.

I have a funny story about Best Buy and Cokin UV filters: soon after I bought the P850, reading the posts on this forum about the utility of a UV filter, I decided to buy one. Having alittle thing about buying online, I went to the closest Best Buy in search for one - they had exactly one 55 Coking UV filter, but it was open item - looked like someone returned it. I didn't want to buy that, so I drove about 30 minutes to the next Best Buy. They had exactly one 55 Cokin UV filter - open item :-). I turned back, and drove for 1 hour to the third and final Best Buy in my driving range. They had exactly one 55 Cokin UV filter.... open item! I ended up buying one of those Quantaray UV filters about which I read later on that they are not that good :-)

Finally, when I bought the circular polarizer today, there were 2 55 Cokin UV filters on display, not marked as open item, but clearly opened.... The polarizer looked fine though :-)
