Chris You made me lose the pool!!! LOL Keep trying. That camera should be capable of very good macro's. The abilities you have and the experience you have with other cameras does not directly transfer to this camera. It is the performance model not the point and shoot model like my 6490. I myself would need time and experience with the 850 before I would get the shots better than I do now with my trusty DX6490. Have fun and post some photo's soon so we can see your progress. from what i have been reading, it is best to use the flower mode, but i defer to actual owners.

i do have a question, though. i believe in your first post you said you like to shoot landscapes. have you considered the P880 with its 24 mm lens. it should be out soon and may better be able to fit your interests, at least if you shoot wide landscapes.

best of luck! :G

Thats a nice macro, Sarah. I'll have to try the flower (macro) option in Scene mode and see if my luck changes. Up until now, I have been using Aperature priority with a combination of Manual focus, Macro focus, and normal focus from the focus menu. In general, I like usingA prioritywith macros to control the DOF.

I agree that P850 macro focus seems to be inferior to DX6490. I tried all possible settings and I had some, albeit verylimited success with manual focus.

Nothing, nothing beats my brand new Pentax *ist DS2 in macro shots of flowers; however, Kodak P850 is still the best walkabout camera. Because of superior colors,P850 beats Pentax DS2at all times in non-edited landscape shots.

Hi Norman, Glad to see you again. I would like to see some more shots from you of P850. Thats sad to hear that macro focus is not as good as DX6490 on P850.

OK. Here is a photo from a trip to Amicalola Falls in North Georgia taken from the top of the Falls to capture moving water at 1/15 sec - shutter priority

I find it very strange that the p850 has problems with macro focus

I can achieve nice macro's with my DX6490 that has probaly a less sophisticated af system

Here's a macro of a seainsectschrimpthing my daughter dug up from thesand on the Northsea beach here in Holland

Device maker: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY
Device model: KODAK DX6490 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA
Exposure Index: 80
Sharpness: Normal
Exposure time: 1/180 sec
White balance: Daylight

The cam as well as the bug(obviously) were handheld

How well does the manual focus work on the P850,

Does it magnify the center and is the evf sharp enough

Does it focus manualy at one speed or is it adjusable through settings

Could a p850 owner please tell us about howde manual focus works in detail plz

Thanks in advance

As I noted above, macro focus works much better in DX6490 than in P850

I agree with that comment. The macro capabilty of the P-850 is definitly not stellar.
