Just noticed the EVF has two holes next to the display, one has what appears to be a LED (light emitting diode, small lamp) in it, not sure if the other one has anything in.

Cant see any reference to them in the manual, but may have missed it..

Any ideas what they are for?

Those tow holes are the sensors to turn on the EVF when you look through it.

When you are not looking through the EVF it turns of to save the battery.:-)

Ahhh! Cheers

Been wondering why they never lit up!

Dont really look through the evf often, so never noticed it turning on that way, but just tried it and see what you mean.

The steadiest shots you can get hand held are while useing the EVF. Also there is a wheel on the left side that is for the dioptor. That is it adjusts the EVF to your vision. If you wear glasses it can be your best friend as it will adjust the focus to your vision requirements!
