In some situations it would be nice if the AE lock would be kept after a picture was taken, but it seems to be impossible with the p850. This makes the AE/AF button (in praxis) useless because I can achieve the same results with half pressing the shutterbutton.

I couldn't agree more. I like the P850, but the AE/AF lock should hold until the button is pressed again. The way it is now it is just like you said, you can do the same thing by half pressing the shutter.
