Let me tell you a story about the "big gun".

I guess you know that HK used to be a British colony, just like the USA. After suffering a massive defeat in "The Opium War", HK has been conceded to Britain in year 1841, but not the whole area like that before 1997. During that time, only the HK Island was conceded.

However, the Chinese Govt worried that the British will expand their sphere of influence and intrude the Kowloon area (of course Kowloon has also been taken after 50 years), while the Victoria Habour between the Kowloon area and HK Island was just too small to function as a shelter. So, the Chinese govt decided to establish a building along the coast of the Kowloon Peninsula, in order toserve the reconnaissance purpose and monitor if the British has any abnormal moves. The building was names "The Kowloon Walled-city", and the"big gun" was there for national security.
