I am looking to purchase a new point and shoot digital camera. Just something for to take pics of the kids and and occational family pictures. Need something here before christmas. I was pretty set on the z700, read many good reviews and was impressed with the zoom. Then I noticed the z730 priced nearly the same, which has more resoultion at 5MP vs the 700 at 4MP. But the 730 only has a 4x optical zoom, but does have a "SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON 4X ", whatever that is worth, maybe it makes up for the 1x difference. Any thoughts between the two?

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks for the bump, Dawg. I looked at these 2 cameras again last night, and I am leaning towards the 730. It is has a little bit smoother operation, IMO. It also comes with rechargeable LI-ION batteries, wheras the 700 comes with alky's and I would have to upgrade. The 2 are selling for the same price right now. As stated before, the only advantage to the 700 is the 5X zoom as opposed the the 4x on the 730, but the 730is a 5MP vs a 4MP on the 700.... kind of a toss up... guess I will just bite the bullet and not nitpick too much.

I have both, the Z730 is a far better built camera than the Z700, I actually tried 3 Z700s before I got a decent one, picture quality from both is good but the Z730 does have the edge.

In Australia the Z730 is holding its price better than any other Kodak, just $100 less than the Z7590 and $110 less than the P850, at $499, the Z700 is selling for $199, these are the prices at the moment in KMart.

Regards

Dave

Thanks, Dave... I was leaning that way, now I know the 730's what I will go with. Out to go pick one up tonight. The 730 is going for $199 around here with the 700 going for $175. $200 buck for a camera of that quality seemed like a good deal to me. I am upgrading from a Nikon Coolpix 775 (2 MP) that has lots of focus issues. I am exited to see what this new Kodak will do.

Thanks again everyone for your help here. I will reply back on Monday, once I have had a chance to shoot some pics.

Don't worry about the double post. Just have a good time with the new camera and post some photos with it as soon as you can!
