I finally got to hold an 850 this morning and found the noise to be slightly less than my DX6490. Don't know if I just have a noisy 6490 or I was holding a quite 850!!! LOL How do you guy's cope with all those features??? The thing nearly gave me sensory overload just trying to use it!!! LOL Nice camera but I think I'll stick with the 6490 until a not so loaded replacement comes along. That's just the old man in me!

I also just got a P850 and did EXTENSIVE research on it before I bought it. I have read several comments about the noise and have discovered there are two things you can do to lessen it: Turn off the Auto Focus and Continuous Image Stabilization.

It seems that for some reason that causes the noise from what I've read. Try using the manual focus where you hold it half way down. As far as the IS, of course we need it, but if there's a way to do without, that will also decrease the noise... or just use it on an as-needed basis. I don't know if you're talking about just while using the video or all the time, so that above comment might not apply.

But again, from what I've read, it's the continuous auto focus and IS settings that contribute to the noise.

Hope that helps!

You are probably right but I don't find it that objectionable myself. Just something to get used to! LOL

I actually like the noise.... it's like having a low restriction exhaust system on my car... deep and throaty! Gets a lot of attention!

It's nice unless the Hawk or eagle you've been stalking for weeks hears it and flies off!
