My lens adapter arrived! I am sooo happy. I can start buying filters and such if need be.

Ritz is having a 33% discount on the Quantaray Filters right now if you purchase more than 3, are they any good? I am thinking of a UV and a Polarizer.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

From what I've read, Quantaray is actually Ritz Camera's brand. I bought a Quantaray UV filter but I got mixed results with it. On the other hand, I am very satisfied with the B+W neutral filter from Kodak. I also bought a Cokin Circular Polarizer from Best Buy, but I didn't get toplay with it yet.

I've not used that brand so I can't say how good they are. If the price is really low go for it! But remember sometimes you get what you pay for. I wish you all the luck on the filters and congradulations on the Adapter!

b&hphotovideo has a Tiffen set with the polorizer and UV Haze for $36.95 and shipping!

Thanks! I feel "free"...kwim? My hands were "tied" until I received that adapter. I mainly take portraits outside with natural light so a few filters have been looked at already :-)

I have practiced "portrait studio setting" in my house but something is missing, besides a few more backdrops and such .

After I understand better this camera I will go into learning and using some photo editing programs. I have Paint Shop Pro 7, I have a "hunch" I can do better but at least I should learn PSP7 first and see what I am "lacking".

Might look at a warming filter too then!

I use nothing but a Quantaray UV Haze filter threaded on to the lens adapter of my P850, just for the sole purpose of protecting the lense from the wind-borne sand and grit we live with here in NM. Flying sand is rough on windshields, eyeglasses, teeth and zoom lenses. I haven't noticed any significant effect on exposure while using the lens and it seems to help somewhat with flare when shooting a backlit house.

I picked up a Hoya UV+ Circular polarizer set off fleabay for about $20.00.. Work great with my P850 and the Kodak brand adapter. You can even use them both without any vignetting (a problem I've seen discussed with some brands when using multiple filters).

Now I just need to find a lens cap that fits on the filter and adapter..
