Since everyone is posting pics of their local idyllic scenery and wildlife, I'd thought I'd contribute. The first pic is from the lowest point in Albuquerque, the Rio Grande valley at a meager altitude of 5,300 feet, a bit higher than that alleged "mile high city" up in Colorado. You can see the mighty Rio Grande (they say that to drown in this thing you'd have to lie face down in it). In the distance is the Sandia Mountain range at about 10,400 feet, home of one of the longest tram systems in the world. The cottonwood forest (the "Bosque") along this section of the river suffered some devastating forest fires recently and has been mostly cleared to allow for new growth. Some local artisans have carved striking statues from a few of the remaining tree trunks, like this Phoenix, ready to rise from the ashes.
