Would have liked it much better with a black background. The green behind it is distracting. You cut off one of the petals on the right that would have shown the whole blossom. Too much wasted space above it! Pretty good focus but still just a hint of noise! If it had had a black back ground I could have overlooked the rest as it might have been a stunning shot! Have you converted to B&W to see haw it looks that way? Without the color difference the background might not make as big a difference!Just one old man's opinion!

I had the very same impression. The background seems to becompeting for attention. And if there would be any way to eliminate that shaddow on the flower, that would strengthen this photo.

Technically the photo is really strong. Compositionally is where there are some flaws. Overall a good but could be better photo.

Will-

That photo really looks great. The background is much more muted and the flower now properly reveals itself as the most imporant subject in the photo. As a result, the visual conflict has disappeared entirely.

Well done! Now you have a strong photo. Thanks for all the work.

That works better with more muted green color for a background. Also like the change in depth of field. Now that my eye and brain can actually see that it is part of the plant it gives it a more natural feel and doesn't look as busy!

Will, I really like the angle and detail of the first shot, but I agree, the background and the shadows on the flower really bug me

Thanks Boiley, that looks really good. Maybe if it were a little darker in the background and lighter in the foreground? I haven't gotten around to really PPing these yet.
