With one wing completely frozen to the ice a goose lay stranded in the lake.

Emergency personell arrive on the scene and prepare to go out on the ice.

Getting suited and going in.

Almost there...

Got Him!

Backslide to shore...

Bonding Takes Place...

Everyone celebrates, and a "Thank You"! Flyover.

Fantastic shots,Silver!!..and what a wonderful ending!I'm so glad it turned out all right..soon as I seen the poor guy and his wing I didn't know if I should keep scrolling.Reminds me of a goose I saw once and his head was frozen into the water..not so happy and I felt horrible for days.Thankyou for such a wonderful sequence..:-)

You've outdone yourself this time Silver. Now we have a photojournalist in the forum. Great shots and story Silver. Perfect use of your camera. Glad you were there to capture the moment. The rescue gave me the "Warm and Fuzzies" in my heart.

Thanks for all the comments. Now I can tell how it happened for me to be there. I was going into town to shoot some pool with my son-in-law and grandsons at the Community center, while my wife and daughter worked out in the gym. (me and the son-in-law are fat and lazy..LOL) I was planning to take the camera along, but decided not to, I thought it would be a hassle shooting pool and trying to baby sit and watch the camera. So I left it at home and took off. As I drove by the lake I noticed another guy in a truck on the cellphone looking out onto the ice. I stopped and looked, he was calling the police to see if the fire dept would go for a safety rescue excercise. I drove back home (9 miles) grabbed the camera and returned in time for the shots. The moral of the story is...take your camera with you when you go!Almost missed these shots!

Great picture story!

1/ Was it covered by local news paper or cable channel? Great human interest story.

2/Were the rescue team vegeterians? What did they have to eat?

3/Are those illegal aliens north of the border depleting local funds when they fly over the boarder and get caught up on the ice?

:?
